What is delta 8 THC: Difference between Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC

Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is perhaps best known for its psychoactive qualities and its ability to increase appetite. But did you know that there are different kinds of THC? Let’s take a look at the lesser-known Delta-8 THC compound, and see how it compares to its more well-known cousin, Delta-9 THC.

What is THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol ?

Before we delve into the depths of cannabinoid comparison, let’s start at the beginning - what is THC?

THC is one of the main active ingredients found in the cannabis plant, alongside Cannabidiol (CBD). There are more than 100 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant; tetrahydrocannabinol being the main ingredient.

The term THC is often used when talking about the Delta-9 compound but it actually refers to a group of similar compounds, with slightly different structures.

For example, both Delta-8 and Delta-9 are types of THC. Without getting too far into the science of it, it simply means that Delta-8 and Delta-9 compounds have the same amount of atoms. However, these atoms are arranged in a different way.

THC

What is Delta-9 THC or Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol ?

So, what is Delta-9 THC? First discovered in 1964, Delta-9 is a fatty substance found in the cannabis plant. It is widely known for the euphoric, psychoactive effect that it has on users.

How does it work? When ingested, the THC molecules are absorbed into the bloodstream. They then travel the body and arrive at the brain. Here, it attaches itself or binds to receptors in the brain. Many of these receptors are located in parts of the brain that are responsible for memory, movement, coordination, pleasure, and thinking.

What is Delta-8 THC or Delta-8-Tetrahydrocannabinol?

Delta-8 is a form of THC. In contrast to Delta-9 THC, Delta-8 is found in much smaller quantities in the cannabis plant. It’s a minor cannabinoid that isn’t directly produced by the plant.

What do we mean by that? Enzymes within the cannabis plant naturally synthesize Delta-9 THC and it is stored in the plant. Over a period of time, this THC breaks down and becomes Delta-8 THC. This is why it is found in smaller concentrations.

Although Delta-8 and Delta-9 share the same amount of atoms, they have some notable differences. The main difference between the two, on a molecular level, is the location of a critical chemical bond.

Both forms of THC have double bonds in their molecular chain; Delta-8 has that bond on the 8th carbon chain. In contrast, Delta-9 has the chemical bond on the 9th carbon chain. This is where the compounds get their names.

It might sound like a tiny difference, but it means that both forms behave in different ways, and they have different effects.

What are the differences between Delta-8 THC and Delta-9 THC?

As we mentioned, the make-up of the two compounds affects the way they behave in the body. For example, Delta-8 can bind to the CB1 receptor in the brain, just like Delta-9 can, but not as well. Because Delta-8 doesn’t bind as well as Delta-9, many people claim that the psychoactive effects of the compound are significantly weaker.

Delta 8 vs Delta 9

It is possible that due to its unique structure, Delta-8’s ability to bind to other receptors may also be impacted. This means that overall, the compound may not be as potent as its cousin. This could explain why users have reported a different experience when using Delta-8, as opposed to Delta-9. Many people have found that their ability to concentrate is impacted less, and they have noticed a reduced feeling of ease.

It is early days when it comes to studying the potential benefits and drawbacks of THC, but we are learning more about the qualities of these compounds. For example, Delta-9 seems to be less stable than Delta-8. This means that it can be easily oxidized to form Delta-8 or even CBD. Delta-8, on the other hand, is more stable and does not oxidize. This also means that it has a longer shelf life.

Stability and prolonged shelf life are qualities that are strongly favored when it comes to medicinal compounds. This means that Delta-8 may be the more attractive option if THC is going to be used for medicinal purposes.

What are the benefits of using Delta-8 THC?

In recent years, many cannabinoids have been tested as potential treatments for medical conditions, and many studies are ongoing. A clinical trial was registered to investigate this, but the study was never completed.

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) database, no large clinical studies have been published on using Delta-8 as treatment for medical conditions (as of 2020).

Is Delta-8 THC used in Wild Haze products?

Delta-8 THC, Delta-9 THC, and HHC are all cannabinoids that may be used in Wild Hemp's sister brand called Wild Haze. The first Wild Haze product was its disposable vape pen that contains both delta 8 THC and HHC. Another example of a Wild Haze product is their hemp derived delta 9 THC gummies. These gummies are mixed berry flavored and contain 10mg of delta-9 THC per gummy. These disposables are for adult vapers only.

Our products are crafted using carefully chosen, industrial hemp sourced in Colorado and Oregon, and our own unique flavors. We are dedicated to providing our customers with safe, premium quality products, and so we have everything third-party tested.

Let’s talk about the different CBD options available.

CBD Tinctures

Here at Wild Hemp, we have created a collection of CBD tinctures, using only the finest ingredients. Our tinctures contain CBD oil that is derived from the hemp plant and suspended in 60-70% alcohol. This means that whilst the CBD potency is a little lower, the product has a longer shelf-life.

Opting for a tincture over a CBD oil also means a stronger bioavailability rate. What does this mean? The alcohol present in the tincture can make it easier for the body to absorb the CBD. To make it easier to integrate into your everyday life, we’ve created a range of flavors for our tinctures. Choose from Sleep, Calm, Revive, Inspire, and Recover. We have fresh flavors to suit everyone's taste.

How does it work?

Taking CBD tinctures is an increasingly popular method of taking CBD because it’s just so easy. Simply place one or two drops under the tongue, hold for a moment, and then swallow. Taking CBD sublingually (under-the-tongue) means that the small blood vessels under the tongue can absorb the CBD with ease. When you swallow the tincture, the CBD will also enter your system through the digestive system too.

Tinctures are easily absorbed by the body but don’t worry, you won’t feel the effects all at once. These particular tinctures work slowly, so you feel the effects of CBD over the course of the day.

As we said, all of our products are rigorously tested to make sure they contain less than 0.3% THC. This tiny amount of THC isn’t enough to make you feel spaced out or groggy. This means that you can enjoy the benefits associated with CBD, without having to worry about failing any drug tests.

CBD Topicals

Our team of experts have carefully crafted topical lotions and rollers so you can benefit from the relief and soothing properties of our products. Our lotion contains broad-spectrum CBD which means that you get all of the natural goodness found in hemp.

All of the naturally occurring cannabinoids and terpenes, in our lotion, work in harmony to soothe and moisturize the skin. As it is gentle on the skin, it’s suitable for use on sensitive skin, or dry or irritating skin conditions.

Each bottle of our CBD lotion constrains 500 mg of CBD and comes in three different scents - Timberlands, Sweetblush, and Unscented. Which one will you choose?

CBD Cigarettes

CBD Cigarettes

If you want to enjoy the benefits of CBD without getting the nasty effects of tobacco? We have the solution for you. CBD Cigarettes or "Hempettes". Hempettes® are pre-rolled cigarettes that have CBD-rich hemp, instead of tobacco.

Hempettes® are perfect for anyone trying to quit smoking tobacco or people who simply prefer a more traditional method of enjoying CBD. Smokable hemp is an extremely popular choice as it is fast-acting. As you inhale, CBD is absorbed into the system by nerve endings and blood vessels in the lungs. This is certainly the option for you if you want to feel the benefits fast.

Here at Wild Hemp, we aim to create the most innovative and fun ways to enjoy all of the benefits that CBD has to offer. That’s why we’ve created 4 amazing flavors for our CBD Cigarettes. Choose from Orginal, Menthol, Pineapple Blaze, or Sweet. As with all of our products, our Hempettes® contain less than 0.3% THC. Our cigarettes may smell quite similar to cannabis, but you don’t have to worry about feeling spaced out.

Of course, we rigorously test every product to ensure that only the highest quality reaches you. This also means that we can ensure our vape oils are free from Delta-8 THC and Delta-9 THC. Also, a wonderful option if you’re prone to misplacing vape pens!

Key takeaways when it comes to Delta 8 THC vs Delta 9 THC

Delta-9 THC and Delta-8 THC are both forms of THC. Although they are similar, on a molecular level, they behave differently. When it comes to psychoactive qualities, Delta-8 is comparatively less potent than Delta-9, according to users. Many people have also reported that the overall effects of Delta-8 are much milder, in comparison to Delta-9.

Although there have been some small-scale studies, in recent years, little is known about the potential uses of Delta-8. More research is needed to find out more about the properties of Delta-8 and whether it can potentially be used to treat medical conditions.

Wild Hemp products undergo thorough testing to ensure that our products don’t contain high amounts of Delta-8 THC and Delta-9 THC. Some of our products may contain less than 0.3% THC, but that tiny amount is not enough to cause any psychoactive effects. Everybody is different and everyone has a different lifestyle, that’s why we’ve designed a wide range of products. We have a range of products to suit everyone from the CBD connoisseur, to the complete beginner.
