What is Copaiba?

Copaiba is an essential oil that is extracted from the trunk of many South American leguminous trees, which are found mostly in the Amazon jungles of Brazil. Though this essential oil has been used medicinally for hundreds of years by Amazon natives, the benefits of copaiba oil have been rediscovered with scientific scrutiny in the 21st century. The majority of these health benefits result from the way copaiba oil affects the body’s Endocannabinoid system. Before we can dive into how the copaiba essential oil affects the Endocannabinoid system to produce health benefits, let’s start with a quick and easy description of what this system is and how it works.

The Endocannabinoid System

The Endocannabinoid system (or ECS for short) is a network composed of three parts: the cannabinoid receptors that are spread throughout your body, the cannabinoids that activate these receptors like how a car key starts an engine, and the enzymes that break down these endocannabinoids, so they don’t stick around after their job has been completed. This system serves to maintain your body’s homeostasis. Homeostasis is just a fancy biological term for keeping your body balanced and running as it should. The two main receptors in the ECS are the CB1 and CB2 receptors. Found primarily in your brain and the nerves in your spinal cord, the CB1 receptors affect functions such as thermoregulation, energy, and appetite. Found primarily in your immune and gastrointestinal system, the CB2 receptors affect functions such as tissue recovery, cardiovascular health, and digestion. Though your body produces the cannabinoids that unlock these functions naturally, stress and poor diet can deplete them, leaving your body unbalanced and unhealthy. Nonetheless, you can combat this by consuming cannabinoids found in plants like hemp flower, which act like your internal cannabinoids that unlock your CB1 and CB2 receptors and produce a positive and balanced ecosystem within your body.

Cannabinoids Found in Nature

The three main cannabinoids found in nature are CBD, THC, and BCP. CBD affects your CB1 and CB2 receptors indirectly by stimulating the production of your body’s internal cannabinoids. Unfortunately, this process can only produce moderate therapeutic effects. Though THC directly activates both CB1 and CB2 receptors, its immediate influence on the CB1 receptor creates a euphoric “high” feeling that is unwanted by many and illegal in most states. This brings us to BCP. BCP only affects the CB2 receptors, but does so directly, increasing the therapeutic benefits, while excluding any undesired “high” feelings. While both THC and CBD are found in the Cannabis plant, BCP can be found in a variety of forms such as herbs, spices, extracts, and plants but usually in small quantities. However, science has recently found that the copaiba essential oil has large enough of a quantity of BCP to stimulate therapeutic benefits within your body. These differences in the way each compound interacts are what cause the differences between copaiba essential oil and Hemp oil.

Wild Hemp’s New Copaiba Tincture

After being strong proponents of CBD and hemp oil, while learning about the amazing benefits of copaiba essential oil, we at Wild Hemp decided to dip our toes into copaiba by making our own tincture. Our CBD tincture is composed of copaiba essential oil, hemp oil, peppermint oil, and coconut oil. With the combination of the BCP in copaiba oil and CBD in hemp oil, you increase the therapeutic benefits of both copaiba and hemp oil. Furthermore, peppermint oil promotes digestive health, increasing the digestive benefits offered by copaiba oil. Our tincture can be taken orally or applied topically. A standard dose is a full dropper under the tongue. Like all of our Wild Hemp products, we have independent third-party labs analyze our tinctures so that you know exactly what you are getting in your tincture.
